Unisson Disability, formerly known as the Sunshine Institute, was founded in 1924 by Dr Lorna Hodgkinson, an Australian pioneer and the first woman to receive a doctorate from Harvard University. Initially established as a residential school for children with intellectual disabilities, the organisation has evolved to support over 700 people across Sydney, the Central Coast, and the Hunter regions. They are dedicated to fostering meaningful lives for individuals with intellectual disabilities, a mission inspired by Hodgkinson's vision. Despite rebranding in 2017, they remain committed to their founding values and continue to lead in the disability sector.
